This painting is about being excluded and the feeling of not being allowed to belong.

To the right, I see a door that has just been slammed shut in front of the two figures. They have been rejected and are left with no choice but to turn away and move on. For me, the work is about standing outside a community that will not let you in — and the quiet loneliness that can come with having to walk away.
